Key Outputs

• Facilitate and support management in meeting their nursing risk and compliance objectives
• Assist Hospital Managers with ensuring compliance with DOH, BHF, & other relevant stakeholders
• Ensure the on-going monitoring of license and registration conditions and associated reporting are timeously completed
• Support management in the implementation of related regulatory changes within the business linked to new and existing nursing/clinical regulations
• Support business decision making by providing nursing compliance inputs and options to facilitate the business initiatives
• Compliance monitoring and regular reporting of events
• Development and implementation of compliance clinical/nursing framework
• Briefing management on requirements, implementation approach and timelines
• Reviewing of all new business requirements for clinical compliance
• Clinical complaints review and make recommendations (Actioning)
• Establishment of risk management framework
• Review of clinical risk registers maintained by hospital management
• Design, maintain and review nursing quality assurance function
• Perform special investigations as required
• Assist operational manager where required in clinical complaint resolutions/investigations
• Ensure that the business operates in clinical compliance with the various regulatory requirements by providing guidance on policy, procedures and rules
• Maintain the clinical risk register for the group

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent clinical understanding of the South African Healthcare regulatory as well as the laws
• Knowledge of Local and statutory laws, rules, and regulations, pertaining to clinical hospital operations and risk management.
• Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of clinical risk and compliance management
• Effective research techniques utilizing the analysis of clinical risk and organizational compliance.
• Best practices in developing and administering compliance programs.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of accident prevention, including knowledge of Statutory and legal occupational safety requirements.
• Ability to uphold ethical and clinical policy standards
• Understanding of managing clinical risk.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills, leadership, organizational, decision making and problem-solving skills.
• Conflict management and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of code of conduct and Labour Relations procedures / processes
• Knowledge of Patient’s Rights Charter.
• Must be a team player and work well with others
• Ability to function in a multi-disciplinary setting
• Must be able to function under stressful situation

Minimum Experience

• Proven leadership and nursing management experience within a hospital environment as a Unit Manager or Deputy Nursing Manager
• 3 years proven record as a manager in a clinical environment
• A solid 5 years clinical experience
• Understanding of business principles
• Computer proficiency – MS Office
• Developing and implementing Nursing care objectives to mitigate risks and conducting regular progress reviews.
• Ensure that the patient care delivery model(s), clinical and staffing standards for Nursing and patient care are consistent with current research and professional standards and with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Minimum Qualification

• B.Cur or B.Cur Ed/ Adm or Bsoc Nursing degree
• Post-graduate qualification in Nursing Management will be an advantage.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council
